WE NEED A MIRACLE!

LAST NIGHT WE GOT TO READ AUSTIN'S NUCLEAR MEDICINE REPORT FROM THE RADIOLOGISTS. HIS HIDA SCAN SHOWED THAT THE DYE, WHICH ACTS AS THE BILE ALL REMAINED IN HIS LIVER. IT DID NOT SHOW THE NETWORK OF TUBULAR STRUCTURES AND TINY DUCTS THAT FORM THE BILIARY SYSTEM TO DRAIN BILE FROM THE LIVER TO THE SMALL INTESTINE. THIS IS USUALLY CAUSED BY A RARE DISEASE OF THE LIVER AND BILE DUCTS CALLED BILIARY ATRESIA. THE ONLY WAY TO FIX THIS IS A MAJOR SUREGERY AND EVENTUALLY A LIVER TRANSPLANT. SO PLEASE PRAY FOR A MIRACLE. LITTLE AUSTIN NEEDS YOUR PRAYERS, HE HAS BEEN FIGHTING SO HARD AND DOING SO GOOD. HE IS NOT GIVING UP AND NEITHER ARE WE. WE HAVE NOT BEEN TOLD THIS IS WHAT HE HAS YET, SO WE HOPE AND PRAY THAT THE GASTRO DOCTOR WILL COME IN TODAY AND TELL US SOMETHING DIFFERENT. PLEASE PRAY THAT GOD WILL BE WITH MOMMY AND DADDY TODAY. WE ARE SCARED TO DEATH. WE JUST WISH WE COULD TAKE ALL OF THIS AWAY FROM HIM, BUT WE CAN'T. IT IS IN GOD'S HANDS AND HE IS THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN HEAL HIM. SO WE HOPE AND PRAY FOR A MIRACLE! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR PRAYERS. WE LOVE YOU ALL!
R.J., JENN, AIDEN, AND AUSTIN

Jenn and RJ,
I really hate hearing the results from the hida scan, but I hope and pray it's just a little curve in the road right now and everything will eventually work out. I know it is so hard on you thinking that everything is finally looking much better and now news like this. I'm definitely praying for a miracle for sweet lil Austin, but I know God will take care of him. He has come so far in the past 3 1/2 weeks and has proven to everyone that he's a true fighter. Bless him!!! I can only imagine what you are going through right now, but hang in there and stay strong. You both are being such wonderful parents and my heart goes out to you. I'm praying for all of you and a miracle for the little one. I'm here for you and I Love You............Rachel Harrison

Jennifer, R.J., and Boys,

I just wanted to let you know I am praying for Little Austin and the rest of your family. You guys are the strongest people I know. There are few people who could handle all you have been through in the past few weeks. Just remember, God will not give you more than you can handle. It is already clear Austin is a fighter. God will help him fight through this, just as He has helped him fight through everything else. I truly believe God will grant Austin the miracle he needs.

Love,
Nicole

I remember well the shock and grief my whole family experienced when my niece Katie was first diagnosed with BA. Since her kasai worked, I have the luxury of having time to do research:

How to find info on biliary atresia

Also, this post on the history of biliary atresia may be helpful for family and friends.

Praying for an accurate diagnosis for your son - BA can be mistaken for Alagilles, bile duct paucity, bile acid synthesis defect and PFIC, and vice versa.

Also, see Liver Families.

All my best,
Amanda, Aunt to Katie, age 8, biliary atresia, kasai
